Japan Economic Zone
The Bangladesh government has acquired 500 acres of land for the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (BSEZ) in Araihazar, Narayanganj, also known as the Japanese Economic Zone. This zone, developed in partnership with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation and the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), is the first of its kind in the country.
The project will expand to 1,000 acres in two phases. Notable companies, including Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Singer, have shown interest, with Singer already setting up operations. The BSEZ will host industries such as automobile assembly, electronics, pharmaceuticals, light engineering, and agro-food processing.
300 Feet Purbachal Express-Way
The government plans to build two new roads to connect Madani Avenue in Baridhara with the Purbachal Expressway near Bashundhara Residential Area, aiming to reduce traffic congestion in Dhaka’s northern regions. These roads will link Purbachal to Gulshan 2 and Rampura Road via Beraid and Natun Bazar, bypassing Kuril Bishwa Road.
One road, 3.3km long, will run from Purbachal New Town to Madani Avenue via Yusufganj, while the other, 5.23km, will pass through Poshi, Kearia, and Jolshiri housing projects. The Tk272 crore project includes four bridges and two culverts, with completion targeted by 2025.
